So I’ve been getting this a bit especially lately.. people asking me “how do I get better,” so here’s basically what I would suggest doing.
1. Watch a lot of replays of the best players, and ONLY the best players. Pick the top two players of your race and get all of their replays and don’t watch anyone else.
2. Copy what the pros do. Just mass ladder so you can adapt to different kinds of playstyles and situations. When you lose, figure out how you lost and work on not making the same mistake. When you have something specific you want to work on is when it’s useful to find a practice partner.
Continuously losing the exact same way over and over again is the biggest way to waste a lot of time. Try something a few times and if it still doesn’t work, change it. “Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.” You have to play smarter, not harder.
More on watching replays: Excluding the replays I watch for entertainment, I would say I watch half of the replays more than once. The first time I watch a replay I will usually have it around 4-6x speed. What I try to do is first get an overall idea of the game and decide if it’s worth studying. Make mental notes of any parts you’ll want to slow down at and pay attention to. The second time through I’ll have the speed down to 1-3x and maybe 1/2x during battles. I’ve occasionally turned off fog of war and watched from a players point of view, although I haven’t found this very beneficial.
Yeah, if you follow this I guarantee you’ll see improvement. Just DON’T COPY 2ND-RATE PLAYERS even if they’re still pros; this slows you down so much.
