Protecting Yourself

With great risk great reward is possible, but this shouldn’t be used as an excuse for foolishness.

Bankroll management, yada yada.

It applies more to bet sizing as a percentage of bankroll. There are some advanced theorems about ideal bet size out there, yada yada.

Take investing. You really need to be prudent about how much of your bankroll you invest. I’m mostly ‘giving advice’ to myself here.

Here’s a good illustration. Take two starting amounts, X and 1/2X. Say the second amount is at 50% because of a bad bet that cost half the bankroll. From now on, let’s say X gains 5% per year and the 1/2X gains 10%. It will take 15 years for the 1/2X to catch up to the X.

I was going to babble on about how I should be able to stop wasting time if I truly want to but I changed my mind.

yada yada

DON’T FORGET WHERE YOU’ER GOING DON’T FORGET WHERE YOU’RE GOING DON’T FORGET WHERE YOUR’E GOING DON’T FORGET WHERE YOU’RE GIONG x 1000000

I find it kind of surprising over like 200,000 hands you can have that much ‘variance’ in poker. I have not actually done the math, but I guess 200,000 is smaller than it seems? I mean, the spreads that casinos and such make money off of are less than like 5%; I would think in poker that above average player would have advantages much greater than 5%.

I say ‘like’ too much.

Anyway, enough on that.

I have been doing a lot of stock research lately. Ask me in a few years or a decade how it is going?

when you start thinking life is bad

just remember mass destroyers

poker has no love for me

i’m going to start shoving flop or something this is ridic. they probably call anyway but this way that stupid all in ev graph will at least show positive ev.

new league idea!

it is a modified ngl format.

each player is only allowed to win twice. upon defeating two opponents, a player is done for the war and the team chooses the next player.

other minor details need to be worked out, such as losing team or twice-winning player’s team names player first? perhaps allow a map veto for new player on twice-winning team? etc.

my idea at the moment is to have losing team name player; then the other team chooses a new player; losing team’s player chooses map.

to illustrate, team A vs team B:

starting map is turtle rock.

A1 > B1 Turtle Rock [starting map]
A1 > B2 Twisted Meadows [B's map choice]

team B says player B3 is playing next
A1 has won twice and is done for the war. team A chooses A2 to face B3.
player B3 chooses Secret Valley

A2 < B3 Secret Valley [B's map]
A3 > B3 Twisted Meadows [A's choice. Each team has their own map pool]
A3 < B4 Terenas Stand [B's map choice]
A4 < B4 Gnoll Wood [A's map choice]

war is over, and the score is [3-3]

war scoring is done by maps won. so when a player wins twice, the opposing team no longer has an opportunity to get a point from him.

note that it is possible to ‘lose’ the war before all players on a team have played (if one person is left, and the other team has 3 people). also, at least two players of a team must play for an ‘all kill’ (2-0 each).

just like ngl, with four players on a team, the minimum number of games in a war is four and the maximum is seven.

for team standings, points are awarded for each war using maps won less maps lost.

of course, I have no plans to actually start another league. :P

season 7

I probably shouldn’t play it but I am really looking forward to it haha. I really shouldn’t but I will probably try to qualify if the competition isn’t too tough. Lan tournaments are so fun. I’ll probably be really bad by then anyway though.. I pretty much don’t play at all anymore.

SNAFU

so after a droughty week dice-roll wise, I’m nearly busto on my $50 deposit; lol.

in brighter news, I can now pretty much recite Theory of Poker.

Metaphor for Life

a sign from God himself — unlucky in cards?

Adapting to Non-Robots

When you’re playing an opponent who isn’t a robot, a lot of times you should consider what he thinks you are going to use against him.

To illustrate — if the last few times you crept a certain way against this opponent and you think he will expect you to do the same, you may consider playing differently either to surprise your opponent or in anticipation of how he will react.

I think in the recent US scene ShrieK has been the best at this by far.

go moon!

I will be sad if moon loses to grubby :(
