there should be a line that looks like

and maybe some other junk

add these lines

127.0.0.1 www.wcreplays.com

and save. reopen your browser and the websites you added should be acting like localhost

demonreps maintenance is a pain. now and again, something goes wrong, and I have to go fix it.. but the early portions are written so poorly, fixing it is a pain. specifically the replay scraper, I’ve half redone it once and completely redone it once, but I never made the effort to do it cleanly, so every time there’s a problem, I have to tediously diagnose it before I can get rid of it. in my defense against myself, usually scrapers are written to do something very specific, so you just spit it out as fast as you can. not quite the case this time.

from all the systems I’ve worked on, there were two main things I did really poorly that can be improved. the first is modular design and the second is allowing for failure along the steps. data checking, error handling, redundancy, etc. your system should never just break down. splitting stuff up into modules greatly simplifies everything.

not funny, not interesting, but meh

pretty fun gameplay for a shooter. story meh. characters meh.

graphics are pretty sweet.

don’t have to deal with heal pots.. you autoheal if you don’t take damage for about 5 seconds. I realized that the crosshair is always in the center of the screen.. and suddenly I sucked significantly less. if one were serious.. one might mark the screen and never deal with the aiming/focus/whatever it’s called at all.

puzzle parts were disappointing. first of all, not even really “puzzles”, second of all, I wasted hours lost. probably just me though.

there are some aspects of micro I never worked on because I “quit” like two years ago. here are a couple maybe some of you will want to work on. both of them deal with “awareness”.

the first is cooldown timing. spells, items. I hardly know any of them. just knowing the value isn’t enough; you have to be able to time it too.

the second is knowing how close your heroes are to leveling (and what you need to kill to get it). for example in battles, if your shadow hunter is about to level to 3, you might want to kill something and skill heal wave before casting it.

When you’re in a Warcraft battle, can you tell at once if you should teleport out? Or do you have to lose half your army before you realize you shouldn’t have fought in the first place?

That’s one of the problems I have when I am not actively practicing. I lose that “sense”. It’s strange because the issue isn’t that the game has changed…
