the real top 5 useless units

wtf retard?

the _real_ top 5 useless units

headhunter, rifleman, witch doctor, archer, gargoyle

off the top of my head, maybe not in that order.

I really want to stick footman in there though.. maybe footie instead of gargoyle.

TightVNC

I switched from UltraVNC to TightVNC. TightVNC supports multi-monitor

In computing, Virtual Network Computing (VNC) is a graphical desktop sharing system that uses the RFB protocol to remotely control another computer. It transmits the keyboard and mouse events from one computer to another, relaying the graphical screen updates back in the other direction, over a network.

demonreps member replays search – complete

http://www.demonreps.com/search/

for the most part it works, but it will make mistakes. the mistakes are on purpose, to simplify the logic. it only checks first four player slots, but I don’t think that will be a problem. the only type of mistake I am aware of has to do with matchups.

for example, searching for players thomasg (ne), (ne), you are not getting elf mirror matches. I can’t fix that without increasing code complexity severalfold.

shorthand races work. for instance, (u), (ud), and (undead) will all match undead. shorthand maps will NOT work.

demonreps member replays changes

many people have requested demonreps member replay searching, so I’ll work on that this weekend.

I think I’ll go ahead and redo the whole request system to be more API-like, and then expose all of the replay information in XML, which no one will use, but it will be there.

not sure if I should just do the search like izireps, or do something cleaner.

database, comma separated. matches any. like so:
IEL, PTGL

names, comma separated, race optional. matches all. like so:
box (hu), holyhuman (human), sonic

maps, comma separated, matches any

Strategy Boards

it is a curious situation that strategy communities, for the most part, are populated by the worst players of the game. if one wished to sniff out the better players, how could he proceed?

it becomes more curious when one must rely on his own limited experience to filter good posts from bad, results which are sure to be dubious. and then there are good posters and bad posters, and bad posts from good posters, and even more confusing, good posts from bad posters.

what if we assume there are active good posters, and we want to bait them, because we can’t read through the entire archive. (we’ve already tried to find good threads, and the good posts and posters in them) what if there are a class of topics that good posters especially like replying to, what would its characteristics be? we also have to be able to tell who the good posters are. they’re probably nontrivial (relevant) problems, but focused. the best players probably aren’t ivory tower types. they don’t want to go into lengthy discussions.

anyway, I’m losing myself here, so I’d better stop. just thoughts.
